Looking For an Anime with LGBTQ+ Representation? Look No Further

It's always been imperative to find representation of yourself in media and entertainment. It's just a part of letting yourself feel "normal" to see that you're not alone. If you've been looking for shows and manga that represent the LGBTQ+ community, here are a few of our team's recommendations! Let us know by commenting under this post, if you would like an article with some LGBTQ+ character shoutouts.

As he begins to work on a film with the man who stole his position, Azumaya Junta, he realizes that he's a sex maniac who's thirst can only be quenched with Takato. Their chemistry off screen translates into a beautiful work on screen but they have to keep their relationship a secret. Will it work out? Disclaimer: this one is pretty raunchy if you're looking for that!

3. Bloom Into You

Representation: Lesbian

Genre: Yuri/Slice of Life

Where to Watch: (Hush, Hush) 9Anime

In Bloom Into You Nanami Touko is the It-Girl at her school. She has people confess their love to her on a weekly basis but turns them all down because she just can't seem to be attracted to anyone. However, when she meets Koito Yuu, her world is turned upside down and she falls madly in love. You'd think that this would immediately bloom (get it?) into a beautiful romance but Yuu has a similar problem to Touko in which she can't be attracted to anyone. Watch as they learn what it's like to love someone of the same sex and realize that they aren't alone.

4. Sk8 Infinity

Representation: Gay

Sk8 Infinity starts out as your regular, passionate sports anime. Reki, an avid skater, tries to teach Langa, the new transfer student, how to skate. After several cuts, scrapes, and fails, Langa realizes he's a natural! These two skate in an underground park and create friendships and enemies while they realize what they really mean to each other.

5. Fate/Apocrypha

Representation: Non-Binary

Genre: Shonen

Where to Watch: Netflix

Fate/Apocrypha in an alternate timeline from Fate/Stay Night. In the Holy Grail War of this timeline, the Grail was stolen and taken to Romania where 14 masters and servants will battle each other for it. The main focus of the show isn't that there are non-binary characters like Jack the Ripper and Astolfo but they do play important roles in the story. This is the show to watch if you want the action as well as the representation!

6. Citrus

Representation: Lesbian

Genre: Yuri/Slice of Life

Where to Watch: Crunchyroll

Citrus involves two girls who become step-sisters when their parents get married. As soon as they move in together under the same roof, the step-sister label is revoked and they become something more. Watch as Yuzu and Mei go on a journey to discover the difference between wants and needs and how it effects their lives.

This show is a bit controversial in the anime community. Some argue that it isn't an accurate representation of lesbians but some just enjoy the show for what it is. However, it's important to make your own opinions about things, right? So, we recommend that you watch both of our recommended Yuri's and let us know which you think is better in our Otaku Chats section! Disclaimer: this one is pretty raunchy if you're looking for that!
