Feeling like some comfort food but don't know anywhere to buy them? You guessed it, we're going to make it at home. If you watch Haikyuu while munching on these pork buns, it'll be like you're there!
Prep Time: 1 hr 15 min.
Cook Time: 10 mins.
Total Time: 1 hr 25 mins.
For the Dough
◒ 2/3 cup all purpose flour
◒ 1/2 cup bread flour
◒ 1/4 cup sugar
◒ 1/2 tbsp of instant yeast
◒ 1/2 tbsp baking powder
◒ 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil (or oil of choice)
◒ dash of salt
◒ 1/2 cup of water
For the Filling
◒ 2/3 cup ground beef
◒ 1/2 onion, minced
◒ 1 tbsp panko crumbs
◒ 1 tbsp soy sauce
◒ 1/2 tbsp sesame oil
◒ 1/2 tbsp sugar
◒ 1/2 tbsp potato starch / corn starch
◒ 1/2 tsp salt
◒ In a bowl mix all the ingredients for the dough minus the water and mix well
◒ Add the water little by little and kneed well for about 10-15 minutes or until dough becomes smooth and silky.
◒ Form the dough into a smooth, round shape, tucking any loose ends underneath. Cover the dough in the bowl with plastic wrap and wait till it doubles in size (30-60 minutes).
◒ While the dough is rising, put all the ingredient you need for the filling in a bowl
◒ Kneed the mixture well until it's combined and looks pale and sticky. Cover with plastic wrap and place in fridge until the dough is ready.
Forming the Bun
◒ Divide the dough into 8 equal parts and roll out each piece again. Cover with a tightly squeezed wet cloth and let it rest for 20 minutes. (This makes it easier to handle.)
◒ Use a roll pin to roll the dough out into a circle. Make sure the edges are thin but the center isn't too overstretched.
◒ Insert the filling in the middle of the dough and pinch the edges of the dough together with thumb and index fingers.
◒ Press the filling further into the dough with your other hand to avoid anything falling out.
◒ Pinch the center of the dough together to close. If this is your first time, use fewer ingredients to make it easier to wrap.
To Steam (with metal pan)
◒ Place a small piece of parchment paper under each bun
◒ Boil water in a steamer and place buns apart so they continue rising
◒ Steam over heat for 15 minutes
